Born and raised in Toronto, Joseph Romantini is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design.  Focusing on contemporary realism, he uses a technique of thinly applied layers of oil paint, and added brush and utility scratches for texture.

"The female body is central to my work.  To me, it animates and expresses emotions in the most powerful way.  I use hair and body language, on a basic level, to address what it feels like to be human. What it means to be alive.  Finally, I paint recognizable images purely by design.  The need to see ourselves represented in a way that is real, allows us to feel connected."
